Attractions

Sham Castle

On approaching or leaving Piltown one is greeted by the impressive octagonal building known as a "sham castle" or the "Tower". This is the unfinished monument in memory to the son of Lord Bessborough who was thought to be dead during the Napoleonic wars . He however survived and returned home. Hence two stories only were completed. The uppermost part is a water reservoir.
